MFI Game Controller on macOS

MetalSamurai 2 years ago • updated 2 years ago 8

I have a Bluetooth MFI game controller for my Mac - a Steelseries Nimbus - but it's not recognised at all by TankiX.

Should it work? If not, is game controller support going to be added? There's nothing in the Game Settings section to set up the buttons or control sticks, but it looks like some PC users are using gamepads and controllers to play on Windows.

There is no such plan for now. But there is a program called XPadder, for which is a third party software, and it allows you to map out keyboard keys, on to a game controller.

Please note: Any use, function, or failure of this software is not due to Tanki, and no responsibility is taken for any issues that may occur.

Xpadder is for windows only, he uses a mac.

Well, there can be other softwares to map out the keyboard keys on game pads.

Isn't Tanki X built with Unity 3D? Unity definitely has built in support for MFI controllers (or it does for iOS - surely the same frameworks are there for macOS as MFI controllers are recognised by macOS).

This idea might be implemented at some point in future, but don't expect it near future.

I have tried using Controllermate and Enjoy2 to map gamepad movements to keypresses. They both result in complete loss of control - the tank just spins round and round.

If the Tanki X roadmap includes an iOS or tvOS port, then that should mean MFI controller support comes for free.

It's Bluetooth, but I've just discovered that if I plug in a Lightning cable to the charging port it's recognised as a USB device. Not sure that will make a difference as it's still an MFI controller, not Xbox or PS.
